Horse Race Terms to Know

Horse racing is a huge sport all over the world but if you are new to this sport, then there are some terms that you should understand  before you head to the track and want to place your bet. Let’s begin with the word Win.   If you bet to win, then this means you are betting that the horse you choose will win the race.  If that horse does wins, then you win also.   The next term is Place.  Here the horse you chose must finish the race in the first or second position.

Show refers to the horse you bet on to finish the race either first, second or third place.   With an Exacta bet, you must pick the horse that wins the race and the one that comes in second place.  Exacta Box is a bet where you have chosen two horses and it doesn’t matter which one comes in first or second.   This is the safest bet.  You can box numerous horses but the wager will go up.

The Trifecta is where your bet it to pick the horses, in order, of finishing the race in first, second and third place.  A Straight Trifecta is a single combination of the first three finishers. With the Trifecta Box your choice of combination here will cost you one dollar minimum with a minimum total of six dollars. On a single ticket you can box three or more horses, and bet one dollar or more on each of your combinations.
